So, i'm thinking of purchasing a server, or running one on my NAS at home.

A headcount currently stands at 4 daily, and a possibility of 2 others (people i play with currently).

I have a dl of 75 - 78mb and upload of 25mb.

I'm hoping this will be enough to hold 20 people (if there are even that many in total?) I can get a static IP off BT relatively easily.

So my final question, who would be up for it?

Running my own as well, but i would pop on from time to time if you did.

Anyone else finding the newer versions much easier? normal loot drops on and after a week or so after a clean start and we have 4 augers, 4 chainsaws, sniper rifle molds, no rocket launchers yet though :( the shotgun messiah and hardware stores have loads of stuff.

Not played it since very early Alpha, how is it coming along?

Random Gen is in now. works quite well and you get some nice features.

Clothing is in now, so you start off in your skivvies and have to find cloths, amour goes on top of cloths.

farming got a overhaul for the better

some of the upgrade paths have changed re-bar frames > upgrade with wood to make mold > pour concrete

No vehicles as of yet, would like a bike or a car with the random gen worlds, the POI's are a lot further apart than they are at nazgrave

Its good fun.

Its a bit like minecraft where the first few days are frantic survival, edging into a city armed with a crossbow hoping not to get mauled by dogs / cop zombies, hoping that horde walks by your shack without noticing you.

Once you get established the zombies aren't very difficult to deal with decent weapons (on the default difficulty at least). So its building a big base, being creative, and playing duck hunt with shambling zombies.

If you play online on a pvp enabled server you have people to deal with, and like DayZ they are the biggest threat to you and your loot, you have land claim blocks that offer your base some protection while you are offline depending on server settings, but expect people to try to break in and take your stuff.

Right now with it being in alpha there are some rough edges, only a few weapons, lack of "end game" stuff aside from the creative aspect or PVP. And with new versions being released world wipes are fairly common with updates.

As a note, land claim blocks do not (by default) protect your land. They just make it take a lot longer to break voxels in the (default) 7x7x7 area t hey claim. I think it makes it take 3x as long, as standard. If you're offline, your stuff is fair game. People can also steal your sleeping bag when you're offline, so get used to hiding it!

Drop belt on death (not backpack)

Our service is vice-verca.. Keep belt on death, drop backpack. Makes you prioritise what you want to keep more.

Do you want to have keep your weapons/ammo/tools? Fine! But that means you have to semi-idle and faff about with your backpack to eat or build.

Do you want to keep the food if you die? Fine! But it stinks more in your belt and will attract more Z's.

I think most servers are belt drops due to the fact people keep their weapons and tools on the best so better risk/reward if you pvp kill someone. Stalking someone till they equip their auger before striking mwhaha*

I was glad that they added consequence for death, one of the guys on my server used to run through a city till his backpack was full then just suicide with nothing on his belt, he had over 300 deaths before the last server reset.

*I mainly just PVE with friends, and just hop on pvp servers from time to time

This. Most players keep their snipers, shotties, pistols etc etc on belt. If a zombie horde get you (mainly pve on my server) then your pretty much fudged. Plus zombies do more damage to blocks.

I miss when you could spawn random hordes... our server would be in shambles lol.

5 hordes appearing from each direction ><
