Garacesh Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 As bizarre as this may sound, I need to make my IE11 identify as IE6, 8 and 9 in order to test with the website we're building. I don't want to simply fire up a new machine and install older versions of IE as there's a problem we're encountering as we build our new website and I need to ensure that it's definitely the website (mis)identifying my browser causing the mistake rather than my browser interpreting the data incorrectly. Chrome and Firefox work fine. IE11 does not. The page is headed with: Don't really know if that's relevant but I think so? The website seems to be identifying IE11 as IE6, possibly similarly to how Windows have skipped Windows 9 because of Win95/98 (there's an Upgrade IE6 banner at the top of the page if viewed in IE11) IE11 running ver 11.0.9600.17501, Update Version 11.0.15. Also tested on ver. 11.0.9600.17420. Chrome Version 39.0.2171.71 m I've tried using an agent-spoofer add-on with Chrome but that doesn't seem to be making a real difference - indeed, telling the add-on to identify as IE6 does not bring up the banner to upgrade. So pretty stumped.
ZeroHour Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 IE11 allows you to switch to older engines just by hitting F12 -> Emulation tab. Changing document mode switches engines. You can also set the User Agent String for the browser window at that moment.
Arthur Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Does using either of the conditional comments below make any difference? https://github.com/h5bp/html5-boilerplate/blob/v4/index.html Hello world! Valyyn Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I had almost exactly the same issue building our site at first, odds are you've got the same problem - IE forces intranet sites into Compatibility mode by default. To turn it off, go to Settings -> Compatibility View Settings, then at the bottom, untick "Display intranet sites in Compatibility View".

Arthur Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 .... it was that simple. FWIW, you add the following line to your HTML to achieve the same effect.
