Google Apps Password Sync - minimum length?

Anyone who uses Google password sync with AD can you tell me if the Google minimum password length of 8 applies? Our AD is set to minimum 6 characters for password. If we were to introduce GAPS would we have to increase the AD password length to 8?

Ours works fine and our minimum password length is below 8.

Ours (GAPS) also works fine with our minimum password length for students being 5 chars.

According to how I've read this document... https://support.google.com/a/answer/2920764?hl=en Google doesn't ever see your AD password. It is the SHA1 hash of the password which is forwarded to the google servers. Therefore google won't know the complexity of your password, as long as they don't throw a data centre at trying to work it out!
