Steve21 Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Hi Guys, So the school I've taken over this summer is running Office 365 entirely cloud based currently, they dumped their old Exchange server a while back to upgrade to LiveEdu. As our internet is always shoddy SWGFL I'm looking to implement the hybrid Exchange 2013 setup so we have the on-premises server for when we need emails even if we have email issues. All the guides I've been looking at always base this installation setup on a fresh install and just wondered if it's actually possible to add an on-premises server without completely restarting/redesigning the Office 365 setup? Was hoping to get this running fairly soon in the new year, but if it's gonna mean taking the whole Office 365 setup offline obviously gonna have to wait till summer. Thanks, Steve
Soulfish Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Yes it's possible to connect an on-premises server to Office 365 as a hybrid environment after you're running, however your users will either be cloud based or on-premises based. Having the hybrid setup won't give users access to email in the event of an internet connection failure. If you need access without an internet connection you then have to start looking at something like backing up the O365 mailboxes back to on-prem using a third party tool such as Office 365 backup & restore software | CodeTwo Backup for Office 365
Steve21 Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 Ah ok :s It won't act as an intermediary server then? That's rather meh Back to slapping SWGFL to fix internet then! haha Thanks, Steve
snagrat Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 If you use Outlook then access to previous emails will be possible and people can still send emails. It'll just queue until the Internet is back up. Plus mobile phones can be connected so they get emails over data rather than wifi
