Im trying to login to our SIMS Discover application however i cannot get in at all. All it gives is a error of "Unknown Error occurred during logon".

Has anyone come across this before and know what the solution is?

I can get onto the Administration utility on the server without any problems.

Is that defo the problem? I know they should be in sync, but 7.159 was the second release of summer i think looking at resource 22991, it doesn't mention another release, worth checking it's docs resource 22860, but there is an iso link for discover 7.158

Surely you'd have noticed this back when you installed summer release...

If you have SOLUS 3 it should push down the latest version for you.

It might be time to brave and go for Autumn 14, all the version numbers match for that, for now.

I dunno Vik, i just saw the different versions and it was late last night. There is another thread on here about the same problem but thats machine specific, where as my problem is happening on all machines barring the server as the discover client isnt install there. To be honest Vik, discover gets used so infrequently, we were about 3 versions behind sims at one point.

What would you do? Would you troubleshoot or jump in with autumn 14?

You might as well troubleshoot the new issues in Autumn 14, than wait around trying to figure out current probs with Summer.

Just check the sticky thread about Autumn, and the resource i mentioned with known issues with Autumn. So long as nothing in there causes you an issue, you might as well be a forerunner. That way if you still have issues, and have to log a case, they can't come back and tell you to upgrade first :)

EDIT: Afterthought - you could, as a safer option, just try the discover iso, in case it has been updated, and might just fix it painlessly, but it was for 7.158 according to that link, but if it has got any issues fixed in it, then it would be easier to try, since no-one is currently using your Discover anyway.

Do you think they have updated the 7.158 iso for discover? I think i might just read the release notes, pass them to the data manager to see what he thinks and get it sent down to us.

Is this a new install or old one which broke? (7.158.36.0 is the latest Discover as of last week I was told by Capita)

If it's a new client I'm assuming you've modified your sims.ini to point to the DiscoverDirectory etc? That always catches me out :)

Ok, this gets stranger..

Apparently someone in school has it working on their machine and works fine.

Discover Client Version: 7.154.3.0

Discover Database Version: 7.158.36.0

Discover Catalogue Version: 7.158.36.0

Data Transfer Service Version: 7.158.36.0

Group Synchronisation Service Version: 7.158.36.0

SIMS Database Version: 3.62.172

Client Version is too old, it needs to be upgraded to 7.158.

When I have had this issue I have uninstalled the client and then reinstalled the most recent (7.158) as I have had problems trying to upgrade across more than one release level.

If you leave the client release for the Autumn, I think you will have the same issue as the client will then be 3 levels distant.

But this is the point, details I have posted are from a machine that works.

How do I find the correct version on the server so I can check that. Im sure the server is on 7.158 but im not too sure.

I would believe the info that Discover says it is on (7.158). I am surprised that Discover client 7.154 works though!!

We are on 7.158 version of Discover for our schools, as this is the summer release version. I believe that 7.159 was the SIMS summer version 2, and not all school needed it, mainly secondary schools.

SOLVED:

Ive had to copy the program files\SIMS\DISCOVER CLIENT from one working computer to the "broken machine". After checking the Programdata\Discover\ config file which was correct, things just worked.
