Please could you give us a bit more information about your setup... Server OS, Workstation OS, Filtering, any relevant messages that might give us a clue, etc

[Yardmaster]

Server 2008r2 Server is running DHCP, DNS & RRAS, firewalls turned off

about six stations get on, the rest hang
