Another BYOD and Ruckus thread - Help with proxy and IP's

Hi

We have a Ruckus Zone Director 3050 and AP 7363.

I have managed to set up a provisioning SSID that only allows access to https://zd-ip-address/activate. Users login (using local database for the moment) and they get passed onto the SSID (BYOD-Guest) that allows access to the internet.

Now here is where i start to struggle.

  1. I need a way to configure the proxy on the devices. There will be IOS, Android and windows devices. Is there anyway to edit the config profile that downloads as part of the zero-IT configuration to include the proxy? Or does anyone know of an automatic way to achieve this?
  2. IP Addresses - I want to use a seperate IP range e.g. 192. I have noticed the zone director has it's own dhcp server built in. Does anyone use this? If i were to configure this would i need to put it on a seperate VLAN so it didn't interfere with our windows dhcp server and school owned wireless devices. As i want devices connected to our main SSID to stay on 10. IP addresses but devices on our BYOD SSID to use 192.

Thanks

Hi @tj2419 I have asked one of the wireless engineers to take a quick look at this for you, he is on the road at the moment so his reply was pretty brief, but he said the following:

You will be unable to edit the Zero IT File. WPAD will not be a great solution either as it's ideally suited for a windows environment with IE, and its not really suitable for BYOD. He suggested the best method is to not use a proxy but a transparent gateway and radius account as this will retain user auditing and filtering.

He is pretty maxed out with wireless projects at the moment, but if you wanted to discuss this in greater detail send me a PM and i will try and book in a call so you both discuss your project in more detail. I hope this all helps a little :)

No problem, not the complete answer at the moment, but hopefully we can work with you and help you get nearer to where you want to be. Any questions, please drop me a PM and i will pass them onto the best person to answer.
