Hi all,

I am looking to by some digital cameras that our classes can take on trips with them. Need to be relatively cheap. Quality doesn't have to be anything special, but good enough so that the pictures aren't gonna come out all blurry unless it's due to 'human error'! Would be good if they were nice and simple, and could take a few drops, but not too 'child friendly'. Anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers,

Phil

The only advice I can give is get ones that can charge via USB cable. Ones that use a standard USB cable and ones with a flash! Basically, cameras are more likely to be lost or misplaced than break from dropping :)

Whatever you go for @Phildw it'd be worth checking out the Punnet Guava guava

It's a cool device that you dock the cameras into at the end of a lesson and it imports the pictures into class sets etc, wipes them and then charges the camera ready for the next class. It was designed and built by a school network management team to solve problems their teachers were having.

Ooh, handy. We currently use Eye-Fi cards, which mostly work well but struggle with larger wodges of photos and videos, especially if someone's bringing in a camera from a trip or something and transferring a bunch of photos at a time. Does the Guava let you customise where photos get put or, as I see it's Raspberyy Pi based, can I simply edit the photo-transfer script to have it sync photos how I want?

Thanks for the advice. Have seen a lot of these Vivitar cameras being sold in various places, not confident in the their image quality though from the reviews I've seen. What do you have in your school and how much did you pay for them?
