Missing documents

This issue is affecting one user out of 1400. We have a Server 2012R2 network, with Windows 7 x64 Enterprise on the desktops. My Documents is redirected to \\server\users$\\my documents. For one user, who doesn't have any special permissions on his usual machine, when he saves to My Documents on his usual machine, that change isn't replicated on the server, and logging onto other machines he doesn't see the changes. As far as his machine is concerned, the drive is mapped, or certainly looks that way. Disconnecting it and remapping it manually shows the same files. Permissions on the server are right, and event viewer reports that the drive mapping has succeeded.

One thing I've noticed is that, for most users My Documents on the server appears as documents due to the ini file created on logon. That isn't the case for this user, even though he does connect to it from other machines.

Usually this is a problem with the offline file cache.

 

Click start and view the Manage Offline Files control panel page and see if the files are listed there. From there you should be able to sync them up. Not sure why it wouldn't do it normally though, I have only seen that once before where a machine was refusing to sync correctly and showed an out of date version of a folder. In that case a reboot of the affected machine fixed it.

I quite like offline files! Seriously useful feature imho

Offline files show no files are set to sync...The affected machine is set to switch off every night in Impero Power Management.

Just checked - offline files are greyed out. I'm sure that is the problem, just need to get there to turn it off!

 

PS Done it! I had to remove the computer from the domain, log on as local admin, disable offline files and re-add it to the domain. I had taken a backup of the local files, as they were the most recent, and I replaced the network files with those.
