zag Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) Does anyone have any ideas on how to automate BYOD device setup? I need each students device type, MAC address, name and student ID, password to be collected in some way. Any ideas? I was thinking an web survey or something Edited September 5, 2014 by zag
pcstru Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) Ideas, sure. Use a SID specifically for registration and captive gateway redirect to a webpage which asks for the information the device itself isn't supplying. You could use a cheapo TP-LINK running dd-wrt to do the CP redirect and a simple PHP page for the CP itself. How easy that is will depend on you skillset. I'd certainly rate it - 'non-trivial' :-). Jasbo Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 that info is listed on our ruckus controller when we use a captive portal, to direct kids to a page with authentication to place them on a byod WLAN, what kind of wifi kit do you have?
Jasbo Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Ah not the password, password for what their device?

We've got Aruba and yes I can see the MAC addresses on the Captive Portal but have no way to verify that it is actually the students device. I'll need to get Active Driectory attached to the CP as well so they dont need to enter their user/passwords again. This is all new stuff so I'm thankful for any comments on how others are doing it. I've get 340 students to enrol on it!
