Deploying Exchange mailboxes

Hi all,

 

We have two domains setup in our office 365 deployment, 1 for staff 1 for students. All users are synced with AD from domain name1. The staff mailboxes are held in our data centre and on domain1 and will not be migrated yet. However the students are setup to login with domain name2 which is all setup and ready to use for mail (DNS done) and given a license which allows mail. However how do I create the mailboxes for domain name 2 and leave domain name 1 as it is? Is this possible? All the users assigned a domain name 2 domain just have 'We are preparing a mailbox for this user.' when you look at the properties of the user and it has been like this all afternoon, about 850 users.

Right mailboxes created this morning but all the default e-mail address are the default *.onmircosoft.com ones! As we sync with AD I have found some pages saying that if you add an e-mail address to the e-mail field on the General tab for your users in AD it will switch the e-mail address over in 365. Done this but its not happened yet... about 850 users to do, does anyone know if this takes a while? Should this work? Has someone on here done this before and confirm I have done the right think?
