Koldov Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Hi All, Not sure this is in the right place... So, booting up the PC is fine, logging on to the network is fine. Everything is as it should be. I go back about half an hour later and see the exclamation mark on the network icon. Opening up 'Network and Sharing' shows that the PC is now 'Unauthenticated' what?! Clicking on the red X for troubleshooting resets the network adapter and the reason given for the failure is that the 'Default Gateway is unavailable - Fixed'. When I go back later it has become unauthenticated again. Only affecting this PC. Checked power saving on the adapter is off. Nothing I could see in the Event Viewer over that period, only complaints about Group Policy and Time Sync (due to no network). Any ideas? Kol.

Several versions of their card drivers were buggy and I saw this behavior on a few PC's, the version I stuck with was b57nd60x.sys v15.2.0.5 (dated 01/06/2012) and since then not seen it happen again. Of course, if it's not a Broadcom, please ignore... Andrew
ADMaster Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Are you using 802.1x authentication on the wire? If not try disabling the wired autoconfig service.

I don't think any special config has been set up anywhere and the drivers are bog standard Windows ones I think. Maybe that's the problem... Kol.
ADMaster Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Hi Kol, You didn’t mention wifi so I assumed this is on the wired network. It is typical to have computers authenticate when dealing with wireless, unless you have an open unsecured ssid. It is possible to have the same authentication setup on the wired network, but you would have to have the switches, and the PC’s configured correctly. When I started testing some of these settings on my wired network last year, it is the only time I have seen authenticated / unauthenticated on the wired network adapter. Here is an MS page detailing how to enable 802.1x in windows, you can check the settings and do the reverse if they ware enabled. Enable 802.1X authentication - Windows Help I hope this helps, Cheers

CraigM Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Maybe try updating the network drivers from Intel's site. Intel are pretty good at squashing bugs in each release, and they are a far sight better than the built in standard Windows drivers.
Joanne Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 yeah I've had weird things from intel cards. Updating the driver usually fixes the issue. Windows update probably broke it!
