Its chuffing working :). It was to do with the inheritent permission in AD. The box wasnt ticked on the test user. As soon as it was ticked i was able to get mail on my phone.

No worries - Active sync settings sit underneath the user account in the AD tree which is why you need that ticked, I'm not sure why it doesn't work but it also means a lot of the time you cannot migrate mailboxes because of that tick box
