SimpleSi Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I think I'm getting a bit of a runaround from people but admit that I don't fully understand the process What steps do I need to take (or what steps do I need old or new provider to take) to move allsaintscofe.lancs.sch.uk (which is currently being re-directed to lancsngfl.ac.uk) I'm being told that the school needs to contact nominnet - is this true - how/where/what??? HELP! Simon
matt40k Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Looks like the domain is registered - WHOIS results | Nominet However it has no registrar listed. I suspect someone cleverly registered it when it was free - they now charge a whooping £5+ vat for life time registration. You basically need to first pick a registrar ie an agent to work with as Nominet charge something silly like £400 to register directly with them without an registrar to cover their extra cost incurred. I would recommend firstly contacting your LA (regardless of if your a LA school or not) and seeing if they can help, failing that someone like Mythic-Beasts - who manage the RaspBerry Pi website and are good company in general, ie you can speak with people who are in this country (specifically Cambridge) and understand what they are talking about. They will however charge you (£39 for 10 years) as they need to cover costs like DNS services and managing the Nominet stuff - which is all pretty much manual - normally you have to fax Nominet on school letterhead paper signed by the head - your selected registrar should give you a template of what information your need to include (and what settings to put). Once you've picked someone, you need to setup the DNS settings, ie mail server MX records and web server A records.
