Virgin Media - What are you paying?

Seriously guys, if you are out of contract, call up and threaten to leave. You are under no obligation to leave and you have to give 30 days notice. You can call up all the way to day 29 and withdraw your notice to cancel. But you're pretty much guaranteed to get a phone call from Virgin Media offering you a MUCH better deal. And even then, make sure you haggle!

 

For those who don't get Virgin Media where they live, do the same with Sky or BT. Tell them you are moving to Virgin (or any other competitor!) they won't know you can't get it and they will offer you a decent package to stay. The main rule is NEVER accept their first offer, fight and fight HARD!

Good in theory, in practice it can be different. As I said last year I tried this, and Virgin basically said they are loosing customers to Sky due to the offers running and they have no retention offers to come close to Sky's new customer deals. Basically I was told to leave!

It's all down to competition in your area, there will be a retention policy but the details will be specific for your street.

 

If like me you live in a Cable and Infinity wired street the odds are in your favour.

 

I got a 100mb broadband upgrade for just £17.50pm down from £26 for 30mb, I run my landlines over SIP on the VM cable for no additional line rental.

 

I just rang VM and told them I was off to BT infinity after 5 years they rolled over and did a deal with no argument.

 

VM/BT know where they have the upper hand and will alway leverage the advantage.
