My dev hyperv box went down taking exchange and a DC with it, it was over 2 months before I could get it back online (yay 10,000 miles away)

The host is back up now, and the DCs seem to be replicating OK via ADSS however gpupdate is failing and Exchange wont start the transport service or information store.

EMC and EMS show the DB as unable to mount. (both GPupdate and exchange services are showing a 'transient error' which makes me think of DNS but that seems to be OK)

This is just a dev/testing setup so not a big deal; Ive got a backup of the exchange DB from the moment it went offline.

Is this worth pursuing a fix for educational value, or should i just demote / repromote the DCs that were offline, and create a new exchange DB and restore the backup?
