[ms office - 2010] Re-installation error

The machine in question had Office 2010 64-bit installed. The user was experiencing issues when exporting from Quickbooks Enterprise so I figured I would downgrade her to 32-bit version of Office 2010. I removed the 64-bit version without issues. After I rebooted I tried to install Office 2010 Standard 32-bit (from an ISO downloaded directly from the Microsoft Volume Licensing Center) and the installer crashed after it began the install. I tried copying it to the hard drive and running it as Administrator but it still crashes. The first error in the log says:

 

"Cannot start standalone OSE. from C:\install\Office2010 Std\Standard.WW\ose.exe. Error code: 0x80070102"

 

I can post the entire log if needed, its only about 6k or so.

Thanks for the reply, but I had already gone through those.

 

I did fix the problem though, using a completely different method.

 

I noticed that whether I ran the 32-bit installer or the 64-bit installer they each gave me the same OSE error message but referenced different files in the install folders. The 64-bit version complained about the Office32MUI and the 32-bit installer complained about the Office64MUI. So I thought maybe this was some strange conflict of architecture because I had the 64-bit version of Office installed previously. I decided to manually create the OSE service, copying the service parameters from the registry of a working computer. I rebooted, made sure my new OSE service (which didn't exist at all previously) was running, and ran the installer. It worked perfectly. I guess if you don't have OSE running it will try to use the OSE.exe file in the setup directory and that was obviously failing, so I figured I would give it a service using the OSE.exe file from the 32-bit setup directory. Odd resolution but I'm just glad its working now.

I have been trying, for two days, to install Office 2010 onto a fresh install of Windows 10. I tried the FixIt; tried 32-bit and 64-bit; tried safe mode; etc. This fix, pre-install the OSE service, did the trick.

I wrote a batch file to do the install. If anyone is interested, I will post it.
