Lock old topics

Is it possible to lock old topics and require people to create new topics?

You find people response to really old topics then the topic appears in the "new" list, then the out-of-date information becomes "fact", then problems occur as people try applying old fixes that are no longer required rather then starting a new topic and getting a proper response.

 

Plus it's annoying getting notifications for really old topics and I hate having to manually go in an unsubscribe.
