DHCP leases not updating DNS

Morning All,

 

I've just set up my first ever test lab with a Server 2012 server and one workstation. I've set up DNS and DHCP and DHCP is dishing out addresses correctly however it isn't registering the DHCP leases in DNS. If I assign the workstation an static IP it shows up just fine.

 

I'm probably doing something really obviously wrong but any ideas?

In dhcp on properties there are settings for dynamic registration of dns records. Particular important is credentials

What @SkreeM1980 says, that'd be my first hunch.

 

In your DHCP console, right-click on IPv4, choose Properties.

On the DNS tab, check that it looks like this:

Then on the Advanced tab, click the Credentials button and give it a username/password that has the appropriate permissions.

 

You might need to restart your DHCP service after this, try that if it doesn't immediately start working.

@sonofsanta thanks for explaining that better I was miles away from my pc at the time, glad somebody knew what I meant.
