Media Player - Digital Rights Management

Ok good people, good afternoon ..

 

First of all, I don't want this to get into a "you can/can't do xyz with copyright issues" and such discussion, there's way too many of those on EduGeek already, but I just have a simple question.

 

A couple of our staff use Media Player to rip in CDs (mainly the relaxation sort) for use with some more complex needs groups but as some CD drives work, some don't etc (you all know schools IT .. lol) they rip them in. Problem being, not matter how many times I say "when it asks you if you want to add copy protection choose no" they ignore me, I get called to a room, and surprise surprise, WMA file with Copy Protection.

 

So, I want to stop them being able to add copy protection on files they rip in, and just wondered whether there was a way to do this top down (i.e. GPO or GPP).

 

I know there's the "Prevent Windows Media DRM Internet Access" option which I guess would stop the DRM server being contacted, but will that stop it adding DRM or will it just stop them being able to rip CDs. I mean, there's part of me (don't get out the pitchforks) that thinks I'll stop Media Player and just force iTunes upon them all .. but then that would be too much of a learning curve for some staff etc ..

What about using different software all together ?

Exact Audio Copy gives far better results than WMP.

Oh I know it's not the best, but it's what they know .. it's one of those it's just easier to let them use that than try and show them how to use another piece of software, no matter how easy it might be to use and what not .. you know what teachers are like I'm sure! lol ..
