tj2419 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Hi Does anyone know of a free or cheap way to backup to tape from a Windows Server 2008? files, SQL and system state. We purchased a server setup and installation from our LEA who we assumed (Our mistake) that they would know server 2008 cannot backup to tape natively. They are now trying to wash their hands of it and we are left with a brand new tape drive and tapes with no way of using them. Any help would be great thanks
pcstru Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Were I in that situation I'd look at Cygwin as a means of straddling between the local filesystem(s) and the tape drive, assuming windows will talk to the device at all. I'd be somewhat confident that would be on the right track - but that's a long way from 'yes, I do know a way' and might be even further from 'that would ever be a good idea'. :-).
