When i close down the computer SUSE asks for root password, its so bloody annoying how do i turn it off?

Make your user a member of the wheel group and see if that helps.

Its only just started happening it didn't do it before. It does it on the logon screen so i don't think that will work because there won't be any users logged on.

Does it do it when you shutdown from when you're actually logged on?

It does it when the user is logged on and on the logon screen. It doesn't matter now i have decided to install SUSE 10.3 with a clean installation
