Helicopter crashes into pub on banks of River Clyde in Glasgow, MP Jim Murphy tells BBC News.

 

The accident is said to have happened at the Clutha Vaults in Stockwell Street.

 

Mr Murphy, the shadow development secretary, said there had been multiple injuries.

 

Speaking to the BBC News Channel he said the fire brigade told him a helicopter crash had taken place.

 

He reported a "pile of people" clambering out of a pub.

 

He said there were about 40 fire brigade staff at the scene and said passers-by had helped at the scene.

Sadly BBC Breakfast has just confirmed three fatalities after this incident.

 

They also say that the authorities expect this number to rise.

 

Edit: The emergency services on site say that the operation is changing form one of rescue to one of recovery.

I know it shouldn't be treated as any sort of joke and my heart goes out to all involved but you have to admire the resilience. Apparently, a reporter asked one of the walking wounded if it was bad in there and he replied "Aye, they had to close the bar!"

Three people inside the helicopter and five people inside The Clutha were killed after the Police Scotland aircraft came down at 22:30 on Friday.

 

A further 14 people are being treated for "very serious injuries".

 

Officers from Police Scotland's major investigations team have asked for any footage of the incident or surrounding areas to be emailed to the dedicated address: [email protected]

 

The investigation will run in parallel with one being run by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.

 

A total of 32 people were hurt in the crash - 14 of them seriously.
