vSphere 5.5 Server 2012 R2 Support

Hello,

 

Is Server 2012 R2 as supported Guest OS on vSphere 5.5? It isnt an option for me when creating a new VM, also i cannot see anywhere on the VMware site to say it is not supported.

VMware Compatibility Guide: Guest/Host Search seems to say it is supported. I'd suppose like in the early days of 2008 R2 you'd need to just select 2012 in the drop down.

That link is for hardware compatibility. 2008 R2 wasn't supported running under the 2008 option when it was released. Users had to upgrade and use the 2008 R2 option.

I think it is coming as a patch release for 5.5 isnt it?

The link didn't copy/paste well. It was actually for "Guest OS":

 

VMware Compatibility Guide: System Search

- Select Guest OS "What are you looking for"

- Select Server 2012 in the OS Family name drop down

- Click View/Update results

- Click Server 2012 R2 in the list of results

 

I suspect they're using the data from 2012 without R2 due to the date of support commencement but the HCL does say supported so ...

I saw it on a tweet so wasn't exactly sure - it may well be VCenter I can't remember or find the tweet!
