OK, a friend of mine owns a shop, and he wants to start a loyalty card scheme. What would be the best way to do the following

 

A) Print the cards with a mag strip which can hold the customers name, address, and loyalty points earned

B) Have a card reader which can read said mag strip

C) Have software which runs on his POS (currently a windows 7 PC with a barcode scanner and basic POS software) to add the points to the account

D) Add certain discounts at various point levels.

 

I have an idea on the card printer, but dont know enough about the software requirements.

 

He is a small-medium store, is not a chain, doesn't want to be just yet either, but has sufficient custom a month to warrant the idea (after all costs - rent, utilities, stock and paying the accountant he is making around £4000 a month)

Storing the data on the cards is potentially a DP nightmare although if he's storing customer details in his pc system he'll have to be registered anyway.

 

Better to just put a barcode on the card that can then be scanned by his normal barcode scanner.

Not a bad idea...any idea on how to get the system to add the loyalty points?

 

And I think he already is DP registered.

That entirely depends on his EPOS system really and whether it has the capability of anyway to write a plugin or additional s/w to handle that side of things without knowing what it is impossible to say.
