acer aspire 3053 wxmi laptop, alt and f10 recovery partition

used the upgrade discs from acer on my aspire 3053 wxmi laptop, to vista . now the recovery command doesn't work. anyway after about a month of a slow computer , ( thankfully had made a back up disc ) , decided to go back to win xp media centre. this i managed to do. everything is fine apart from the alt - f10 command on start up.

i ran the computer management console and the recovery partition is there and shows healthy, .

does anyone know how to fix the mbr to make this partition active again , or am i pushing the wrong buttons.

any ideas would be gratefully received
