I have one department who keep giving me minor changes to student lists and have asked for students to be removed from a single BTEC period in SIMS. Is there a way that I can do this without removing them from the entire block?

No I don't think thats possible. You would have to split the block into separate classes so that they appear that way in Academic Manager and you could then remove the one pupil from one of the classes.

Can you use that derived classes thingy to do this - never got it working, but sounds like the job, so you split the class up not the block. I might just be talking twaddle.

We used derived years before and it made a right mess. I think the boss isn't keen on touching those again as we aren't too sure how they are meant to work either. :(

derived classes or it might be called linked classes is different though, it's for when a class is split into e.g. higher level / standard level, or A / AS groups, but taught by same teacher, so you can split up the kids.

EDIT: it is linked classes, but may not be exactly for your situation but i'm sure it would work. It was on page 76 of my april 2012 T6 manual. I can't get teh live online manuals to work :o( none of the links are live i get dead pdf pages.

You can do this by using the Alternative Curriculum feature in Nova-T. You need to set up a session for them which has a room and member of staff assigned to it. That staff member will then be able to do the register for that period.

No sign of Linked Classes in my manual, it is from August 2011 though. Alt Curriculum looks like it might be the answer.

What do you want to do with the Student in this BTEC class once they've been removed?

If you just want them to be removed and have a blank on the timetable, if you go into the Curriculum Assignment by Student Screen you can click on the lesson which you want and then search for the student.

You can then scroll down to the timetable at the bottom, select the lesson that you want and then remove the membership for that lesson (I think, it's a couple of years since I've had to do it). It works the same way as the alternative curriculum, however we don't use that. What we do is Timetable clashes within Nova-T6, sned the timetable across, allocate the students to the group and then go and resolve the clash by removing them from one of the 2 lessons. It's a faff, but it still works for us.

Can you access online?

@vikpaw: Can't find it on SupportNet, wonder where the timetabling guide went? :(

@Cache: This works! I never even knew that timetable existed or that we could remove students as it is always hidden off screen. This solves quite a few problems I have, thanks!

it's online - as in, click documentation from homepage and it should go online but i can't click teh links for some reason. probably a browser / plugin fault.
