Metro Electro on IE 10 - pockle to getting it to work (I think?!)

Hello, all..

 

This may be of VERY limited use, but I figured it's good to share the knowledge..

 

Our school runs the non-IIS version of Metro Electro Teacher by basically running off of a share.

 

I'm not exactly certain WHICH Metro Electro it is - it has:

 

Metro Electro 1 - starts with a Flash file saying Presentations and Toolbox, with some drawn kids at the right.

Metro Electro 2 - starts with Rouge/Vert and then looks the same as the above.

 

 

For years, we've got round the issue by a couple of "pockles":

 

First, create C:\temp\Metro, and use SetACL to allow users to write to that folder but not delete itself.

Next is the icons for Metro 1/2 are actually pointing to an AutoIt script which copies over the necessary Flash settings to allow the content to show.

 

All was well - till I tried it on IE10. Not good. The content was blank.

Through experimentation, I found that if I used F12 and set it to IE7 compatibility then it worked, as it was running in Quirks mode.

 

If you edit the following file for Metro 1/2:

 

Teacher\Inc\Teacher\top_section.htm

 

and add the following below the bit:

 

 

then it seems to work. Provided you also have the additional Flash and C:\Temp pockles mentioned above.

We were using the CD so copied the files to the share and added in the tags as suggested. Works a treat.

 

FYI, for anyone else that has this god aweful pile of drivel, you will also need to configure flash to trust the location metro dumps stuff into (C:\temp\metro). To configure flash to trust the location you need to copy a config file to the following location:

 

%APPDATA%\Macromedia\Flash Player\#Security\FlashPlayerTrust

 

The config file can be named as you wish (e.g. metro.cfg). Its a simple text file as below:

 

# Trust all files in Metro Electro 2
C:\temp\metro

At the risk of digging up an old thread...

 

Term started here, and the Staff all reported that they couldn't use Metro on their shiny new PCs.

Specifically, they could launch the program but not click on the audio play buttons in the middle of the screen.

 

After a few experiments, it turns out that Flash Player 21 is the last version that this runs on.

Or, at least, Versions 25 and 23 didn't and Version 21 did. Don't know if there was a version 22 - didn't bother looking.

 

So that'll be it consigned to the rubbish heap when we eventually jump to Windows 10.
