Ephelyon Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Just came across this on El Reg: Tech quango coughs £800k to hook your child up to Internet of Things The comment down the bottom is interesting (a potential national rollout)... anyone else paranoid enough to wonder whether this could lead to an attempt to cloudify us all by the back door?
Cache Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I spotted this and tried to find out more information behind it, such as how the schools were selected, what is it actually doing and what not but couldn't find any details anyway. Also spotted it mentions State schools, so I'm assuming that means academies will be excluded from it, so I'm still not sure.
Ephelyon Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Perhaps for now, but if they're looking at doing it nationwide (way down the line) I'd imagine academies would have to be included as they're over half of schools now. Not that I really want to be seen to balk at an £800K grant, but one wonders to what extent NMs and tech teams could be sidelined during this process, if at all in fairness.
elsiegee40 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Academies are state schools. They get their money from the government via the Funding Agency. 1
Ephelyon Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 D'oh! Just spotted one in the list anyway...
