Problems opening MS Excel 2013 files from network location!!!

Hi,

 

I have an issue with users unable to open Excel 2013 files from a network share in a Windows 8 environment. If they try to open an existing document from a share Excel will just hang and crash. If I open Excel first then go that route the same document seems to open up correctly. But this isn't ideal as users need to be able to open files directly from the shares.

 

Has anyone come across this??
