I started watching it a while back and wrote :

"Hell on Wheels. Some nice nods to realism give a thin sense of authenticity to a modern western soap. Bullets miss, mud is smeared, blood adorns the dead. But it all feels a bit thin with plot and characters uninspiring and largely unoriginal and the historical setting which could have provided a rich broth is ... thin. Not sure I'll run to Season 2. "

I didn't quite manage to finish S1. For a western based on a railway setting it just ... runs out of steam.

I never went back to it.

I would recommend Orphan Black. A bit ... 'meh' to start with but it sucks you in over the first few episodes and Tatiana Maslany is utterly convincing playing all the clones. I'm also looking forward to seeing the second series of Utopia, the first one was staggeringly good.
