I'm contemplating upgrading my i7-920 as it's now 3 years old and a 4770 would offer pretty much double the performance but it's more a case of 'wanting' an upgrade rather than needing it at this point!

 

Haswell will also make for a useful jump in battery life in mobile devices. We should see around a 50% just in battery life over Ivy bridge based models.

Or for power consumption in the data centre - seemingly the Xeon E3-1220L has a TDP of 13 watts.

Once Intel has fixed the USB 3.0 issue, I think I will do the same. The mITX Maximus VI Impact is looking very tempting.

Older SSDs may have trouble with Z87 motherboards

 

Just a heads up to those with older SSDs: an issue has come to light on the conclusions page of HardOCP's review of the ASUS Z87-A motherboard, in which older SSDs may not be seen on the new chipset:

 

"Doing a bit of digging we found that some 1200 and 1600 series SandForce controllers are not fully SATA specification compliant and the previous Intel chipsets allowed for this out of spec behavior. It seems that the Z87 will not allow for this as it requires 'strict adherence to the SATA specification.' We did test the workaround BIOS that ASUS sent us without issues using the older Corsair F120 SSDs that employ the Sandforce 1200 controller. So obviously, this will have to be solved at a motherboard BIOS level and something to keep in mind if you have older SATA 2 SSD drives." - Kyle Bennett
