Hi all,

DC1 and DC2 are running Win 2008 R2. DC1 is running dhcp, dns. DC2 is running DNS.

DC1's ad is corrupt. We have a full VM backup of DC1 and DC2 from last week from the physical hyper v host. The sys state backup failed.

Are we able to restore DC1 and DC2 back to last week, would this cause issues to other servers such as file server? Theoretically dc1 and dc2 would be restored to when they were working before the AD corruption. Both DCs should be able to talk and no usn rollbac occur?

Will this work? Would USN rollback still occur as they will be slightly out of sync? Do you recommend to seize rolls to DC2 and clean up meta db and rebuild DC1 and dcpromo it back up?

Of course we will do this in a test environment first.

Thanks

Do this, dont bother restoring from backup as you say you will have lots of problems. You would only restore from backup if for example you loose both DC's in a fire.

Do a clean install, you'll end up with loads of problems restoring an out of sync backup. This is one reason we're testing moving to server 2012 as that doesn't have the AD sync issues of previous versions, so might be worth looking at installing that if you have an licensing agreement that allows you to.

Hi, you probably have already done this, but just in cause you haven't. You better setup dc2 as a dhcp server because soon all the leases will run out and everyone will loose connectivity.
