Hi all, please help as this is driving me mad. WE had system center installed and worked fine for about 2-3 weeks, but now every day when i come in, the plugin via my machine cant connect to the server and the os deployments stop completely eitehr by PXE or though the client, a restart of the server generally fixes the connect problems via my plugin, but deployments are hit and miss.

 

The only think i can see that runs overnight is the SCCM backup.

 

I'm finding it the most frustrating bit of software ever, when it works its fantastic, but when it brakes or stops doing what im asking i could throw it thought the wall.

 

I would be grateful for any help on this.

When this happens are all the services running? Whats showing up in the logs?

Definately worth checking the logs on the server here. Is it just your machine affected? By plugin - im guessing you mean the Software Centre, or do you mean the Control Panel item - or the Admin Console?

The Admin Console. the only thing on the servers event logs is

 

The description for Event ID 63 from source Microsoft-Windows-WMI cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

 

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

 

The following information was included with the event:

 

SMSDPProvider

root\SCCMDP

 

 

Other than that, nothing i have looking into the folder that contains all the logs and looked at SMSPXE.log and this is the last entry.

As for the services there must be one not running which is then resolved on restart, i looked but cant see any obvious ones turned off.

Just figured out the PXE part, i was stupid and though that a new hard drive would make the machine as unknown, removed the old PC name from system center, and bam PXE works. Still not sure what knocks out my console every night?

Last night i tried to shut the console on my machine to see if having it open had any effect, came in this morning console would not connect, tried getting a pc to launch via PXE and failed. Sever rebooted PXE works, and can connect to console.

 

Some thing is happening each night that knocks it out. Any ideas?

Further update:

 

I have turned off the nightly backups SCCM carry's out, and this has stopped me having to restart sever every day, no wiser as to why the backup would brake it.

 

The other odd problem that's popped up is, i have 2 task sequences to deploy windows 7, one copied from the original that was created, i can deploy the original to a machine via the SCCM client, but the copy will not deploy out via the client but works fine if i change the deployment to PXE only.

Nope, just restart the server every day. Another problem has just poped up tho, the client no longer installs correctly, the action list does not populate fully, the configuration tab is missing from the control panel Configuration management program.

 

Out of interest have you applied the cu1 yet?
