AccessibleSean Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Hi all, new to the forums and indeed my job, which involves various administrative duties using SIMs (we're on v7.15). I am blind and use screen reading software and was wondering if anyone was in a similar position or new of anybody else who was, with a view to sharing any accessibility tips or info. I'm finding SIMs usable, but I am a fairly comfortable techy and dread having to teach use to other blind people if the access remains so slapdash. Cheers, Sean.
vikpaw Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 @AccessibleSean Your SIMS is way out of date, the latest version is 7.150, but you should get up to 7.148 at least as that's stable and supported. Not sure on too much info regarding accessibility apart from the basic PC stuff. It might help to keep the resolution to 1024 by 768 as some things are hard coded for that. I can't even imagine trying to get blind people to use SIMS, it's hard enough getting the seeing to get to grips with the intricacies. Good luck and if you need anything, we're always here and willing to help.
TechMonkey Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 We had to get SIMS working with Jaws (which I hate with a passion) at my last place and it was never great. Odd tab orders, troubles moving from pane to pane, some text not being read and general keyboard navigation issues. I asked for accessibility to be pushed upstream by our county support team and they would always come back with it is being looked in to and all ready had a high level of accessibility support. Sorry, no help but I feel your pain. 2
vikpaw Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 That reminds me. SIMS tab order changes every release, it's a royal PITA. I had scripts that would simulate keyboard commands and tab through menus and buttons, and i always had to test and adjust every release.
