Boot a VM from another PC using network boot

Hello guys.

I have this issue from the title of this post.

So if someone know a way to boot other PC virtual machine using network boot will be very nice.

I spend hours to find a solution, but unfortunately with no success.

I try to do it with Vmware Workstation and Vmware Server.

Is there any way to do this with no hard disk on PC that you boot from.

You would need an OS on the virtual machine you boot from i.e. on a virtual hard drive. Is this what you mean?

Its independently but do I actualy need a hard disk and OS installed on my machine?

For example i have one server with VM on it and share it via DHCP.

Is there a way to boot it from thin client without hard disk drive?

And if the answer is yes, how actualy I can do this.

The how is something else! You can boot from a PXE server into a fully functional WindowsPE or Linux environment which in turn can be setup to run something like VirtualBox automatically on start up and then automatically run a VM image across the network. It's a lot of work and the bigger question is why?

 

Your starting point is setting up a PXE server. WDS in Windows Server is good. Actually, I'm pretty sure WDS supports booting a VHD image file across the network (not sure how to do it, never tried). It seems to me you might be better looking into Terminal Services and/or Virtual Desktops first, and then looking at PXE booting a basic thinclient environment like thinstation (:: Thinstation - a light, full-featured Linux thin client OS ::).
