Hello,

I am testing Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 with our nComputing x550 kit thin clients. I would like to have each client get their own IP (which I have working just fine) the issue is I would like to decide which IP they get so that I have better management on our content filter.

We use Untangle with IP based filter rules for various locations (such as classrooms and library). Is it possible in WMS to control which IP goes to which client? Or even determine a specified IP range for that group of clients?

Thanks.

Presumably each vitual adapter that the server uses will have a mac address associated to it so you could add a reservation in dhcp for those?

Thanks for the quick reply.

On the UTM (Untangle, also acting as DHCP) the virtual addresses assigned registered with the same mac address as the WMS NIC. Thus registering multiple IP's as one mac address. Under running ipconfig on the client it showed the primary IP and then a deprecated IP (for the client) but no mac address for the client.

Since WMS was the host I thought it would control the virtual IP assignments but perhaps this is better question for nComputing and how to find what the client mac address's are? Although that leads me back to the DHCP server and reading multiple IP's for one mac address.

(BTW there is no mac address printed on the x550 thin client)

The x550 and associated client boxes if memory serves me correctly are really more of a multi headed graphics card with audio and kb/mouse than a thin client.

So is there no way configure an IP for each one?

I guess I was hoping for a way that WMS could allocate which IP when to where or even what range to use. I cant find anything in the settings to do that, maybe a registry edit?
