Hi,

I expect some of you will have seen this video

where some bloke upgrades a virtual machine thru every version of windows (except NT4 and ME), from DOS 5.0 to Windows 7

Basically, I was hoping to do the same with SIMS and I've managed to do get from DOS, through the DOS-SQL data conversion, to SIMS .net CP 4.04.10 (Summer 2004 CD), thanks to someone very helpful who supplied me with the CDs to get this far.

However this person doesn't have the Spring 2005 or Spring 2006 CDs, does have December 2006 but doesn't have August 2007 so in order to get to the SQL 2005 migration stage I'd need these 3 CDs.

SOLUS doesn't provide anything before the last 2 releases.

Anyone have these CDs? I'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks

It's a long shot, but if you search on SupportNet, they quite often have a KB article with a link to the downloadables, or is that SOLUS and what you were referring to? I thought it was just a download mirror somewhere, which may still be active.

Failing that, some LA bods somewhere i'm sure will have them.

I think we recently threw away some SIMS floppy disks!

Not quite sure what you hope to achieve, you must be really bored if you voluntarily want to put yourself through the punishment of SIMS upgrade. It's cheating using the CDs, you should set them up on an FTP server and simulate a live download, which then fails half way, and needs a call to support to get a missing file or the whole thing added to SOLUS again.

You should also show the client upgrade and see how many times it fails based on permissions of the end user (who is using the windows OS from the inspiration youtube) :D

lol - no there are a few links to iso downloads but they're all dead links now. Capita seem to be more cagey about providing access to redundant versions of SIMS than they are about the current ones!

About being bored - yeah you're probably right but it's always quite satisfying when you achieve these things...

You should enroll to BETA test Discover or offer to catalogue all Change Requests, and write a search facility.

In theory, can't you get the Setups folder from an old S drive backup. Assuming you keep or find someone that does, at least one backup per year....?

I'm pretty sure we're on the list for Discover - saw on SupportNet today that it's available so I'm not sure if we'll be getting it soon or if I need to get back to them - I'll look into that tomorrow.

If you've got any CDs that old at work, could you let me know? I don't mind paying postage from Jeddah...

I'd bring it over at Easter if i had any, but i'm barely 3 years old and don't keep anything. Will ask if there is an old cupboard left unturned but i doubt they kept anything. soz.

Any use to you? There may be more, but we had a clear out, and i said, we wouldn't need any of that junk! So they went to the primary school to make pretty coasters with!

Also have a "Combined Security and NOVA Security Disk" 3.5inch floppies from November 2003 and June 2005.

Thanks Vikpaw, that'd be great - I'll PM you to sort out the easiest way for you to get it to me.

**Still looking for those other CDs though, people - give us a hand if you can........**

Just sent you a link to a dropbox folder with some files of interest. Don't have the .exe files though, still looking around, but not likely as they are the ones that get overwritten and i've not been here long enough to go back as far as you need.
