A FYI on questions about MIS security and workarounds

Unfortunately on occasion we have to deal with users who come here to try and solicit information regarding our MIS systems. More often than not it's students and is easy to spot.

 

Nonetheless, we all know how important MISes are and that they contain lots of sensitive data so I would like to ask you all to be extra vigilant with the advice we give, and be particularly wary of newcomers.

 

If in doubt double check with the member politely or report suspicious posts so the Mod Team can make enquiries.

 

Please do not post links to software, passwords etc that may help unscrupulous users to glean information about and access to our systems. It's always best to direct members to the official sources for software and support on matters regarding privileged info. This ensures the latest official information is available to the right people.

 

Please also be wary of being approached by private message for help. It is much better to share information in the forums (if appropriate), so all can benefit.

I’ve recently noticed a number of threads with vague details of a problem and requests for support with setting up systems or getting files and other info.

 

Most are legitimate, however please be cautious and remember the first port of call should be to direct to official support channels.

 

If in doubt, ask a mod to check and contact the user directly.
