We currently have an elderly 40ap Ruckus system with a mix of AP models, A Splicecom phone system with around 30 extensions, and around 20 switches from an assortment of vendors including HP(procurve), Netgear, HP Aruba and TPLink. It's a completely flat network despite having almost 600 devices hung off it.

I have been buying Yealink phones for the last year to replace the failing and out of support IPCS phones, and the wholesaler I've been using (UX Pro) has suggested I investigate Grandstream with a view to unifying all 3 systems. I have to say that I'm very impressed, it seems incredibly feature rich and the price point is almost unbelieveable - I can do a full hardware refresh of wired, wireless and telephones for the price of wifi and wired from Unifi or just wired from any other vendor.

Anyone here used any of the Grandstream networking? They seem to be very big in asia and in the hospitality industry. This will present a massive technical challenge when it comes to dealing with the Microsoft tenancy and other such systems. The change it likely to occur at the end of this academic year, so I have some time to plan for it. I am a one-man-band, though I can call upon the services of a couple of people if I need to. I could also bring in an outside company to perform this, obviously at a not insignificant cost. I am presume I'd be dealing with a new domain name, either renaming the existing tenant (though my understanding that the .onmicrosoft.com cannot be renamed) or creating a brand new tenant and migrating everything across.

We are a full Entra/SharePoint domain with an on-site AD server (though the AD server is purely for user account creation via Locker Connect that syncs to Entra, DNS and DHCP). All devices are Intune-only, so presumably would have to be either configured with the new domain name or reimaged (depending on which route is taken).

	I'm Back!

I'm now doing a full-service technical management role in a very large primary school. I took over site, which was a mess and now I'm doing their IT which looks OK from the front but is a mess from the back.

Once of the issues I'm currently trying to straighten out is that practically every intune windows config policy has some sort of conflict with another policy. I've weeded out all the obvious duplication of settings (AV options were set 3 times in 3 different policies for example) but I've got some now that I cannot find the source of the conflict.

The one thing I have noticed is that we have the default 'education PC policy' set including the the enigmatic 'education policies' option. Nowhere can I find an actual breakdown of what that sets. I'm wondering if that is the source of my remaining conflicts.

We’re a secondary school looking for recommendations for firms experienced in delivering server infrastructure projects in education.

	The proposed scope includes:

Replacing our VMware infrastructure with two Microsoft Hyper-V hosts and shared storage.

Migrating seven virtual servers, covering domain controllers, file/print and school application services.

Moving to Windows Server 2025 and reviewing backup arrangements.

Developing our Intune/Autopilot setup, including moving appropriate management tasks from Group Policy and retiring WDS/WSUS.

Providing migration planning, testing, documentation and handover, with five-year hardware support.

We have an initial proposal and hardware specification and would like additional indicative quotes, along with advice on whether the proposed approach is appropriate.

Has anyone recently completed similar work and can recommend a firm? First-hand feedback on delivery, managing disruption and support after implementation would be particularly helpful.

Happy to discuss the detailed requirements privately. Interested to hear what other schools are using for CCTV and how you’re finding it, particularly smaller primary schools.

We currently have a Hikvision IP system which appears to have been installed around 10 years ago. We want to add more cameras, but the NVR is at capacity, so we’re looking at whether to replace the recorder and keep the existing cameras or start moving towards another system.

UniFi seems popular at the moment, and my previous school started moving that way just as I left.

However, we don’t have any other Ubiquiti equipment here, so I’m interested in people’s experiences of using Protect alongside another manufacturer’s network.

I’ve also heard of Verkada and would be interested in how people find it, particularly the ongoing costs and whether it offers enough benefit to justify them in a school.

Our main use is safeguarding and reviewing incidents or injuries, so straightforward footage searches, reliable recording and sensible access for authorised staff are the priorities.

What are you using, would you recommend it, and would you choose the same system again? Has anyone replaced an older Hikvision NVR while retaining their existing IP cameras?

CCTV is the main focus, but we’re also considering access control, gates and intercoms, so any experiences of systems that work well together would be useful.

What are People using as a replacement? How do you update your records for broadband quality monitor from thinkbroadband.

Dearest Devoted Denizens of Dynamic IPs,

We are writing to inform you that the DNS-O-Matic service will be officially discontinued in 30 days.

Over the years, DNS-O-Matic has served as a tool for managing dynamic IP addresses. However, as internet infrastructure has evolved, the original utility of this service has diminished. Over time, our niche solution to a niche problem has become an obscure solution to an obscure problem. Consequently, we have decided to reallocate our resources and innovation toward other projects.

	What this means for you:

Service Termination: The service will officially cease operations in 30 days.

Data Privacy: Upon closure, all associated data for DNS-O-Matic will be permanently deleted. We will not sell, share, or use your information for any marketing or research purposes, and you will not receive further communications regarding this service after this notice. Be aware that all account logins are linked to OpenDNS registrations; the login and credentials shall remain active and unaffected to support all other OpenDNS functions, which is why the accounts themselves are not being closed. See OpenDNS terms of service and privacy policy if you have any further questions or concerns on what data remains and Cisco's commitments to protecting it.

Technical Impact: To ensure a clean transition, our APIs will begin returning an authentication error ("badauth") to prevent unnecessary client re-tries. Please note that once the service is closed, your dynamic IP updates will no longer be processed.

We appreciate your support and the time you have spent using DNS-O-Matic. Thank you for being a part of our community.

	Sincerely,

I can load in the pkg no problems, but that's it.

I've seen some chatter about using pre/post-install scripts, but nothing that actually explains how to do it. Alternatively, I've seen discussions around using application configuration profiles, but those only seem to be applicable for mobile clients (iOS, iPadOS and Android).
