Car:

There is a car park at the museum, and I have been told we can have free parking for attendees, but we are currently waiting on further instructions from the event management department at the museum.

NYNet:

Technology firm Nynet has been the driving force behind North Yorkshire’s digital connectivity since 2007. Its latest collaboration with North Yorkshire Council has led to the creation of Britain’s largest rural Smart County with the deployment of a LoRaWAN network covering over 85% of the geographical area of North Yorkshire through more than 100 LoRaWAN gateways. This network is now being used by schools in the region to monitor Indoor Air Quality using IoT.

It is now being made available to businesses in the region as part of a major expansion programme. North Yorkshire is ranked third in the UK for high-speed school broadband following work by Nynet to expand its gigabit fibre network to education settings. Travel:

Rail - The Royal Armouries is easy to reach and is a 10-15 min walk from Leeds railway station.

*And yes, I know it says 17 mins on the map, but I’ve walked this myself and unless you keep stopping to look at things you’ll make it in 10-15 mins.

Car - You can also come by car and there is a car park next to the Armouries (CitiPark Leeds Dock, LS10 1LE). If you are parking for 24 hours, then you get a discount on parking.

This is £10.80 for 24 hours and you will have to pay (card only) in the Perl Suite to a member of the RA staff who will validate your ticket.

If someone is giving you a lift, there is a drop-off point outside (see pic below).

This is just a quick announcement from all of us here at EduGeek to let you know that we are going to be putting this years EDIT Conference on hold for the time being due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation.

This wasn’t an easy decision for us to make, and we were already in the planning stages when took it late last week.

As the conf was due to be held in May, and it is apparent that the current situation in the UK is only just beginning to take effect, plus is also predicted to take several months to run its course, we think that it is the most responsible action we can take is to postpone it until at least after the summer.

We do apologise for this and we hope that we can give you an even better event later in the year.

Schools Broadband – B281

Schools Broadband is pleased to announce their work in conjunction with the Department for Education and the Department for Digital Culture, Media and Sport, on a pilot scheme to deliver faster broadband to schools.

Schools who do not have a Leased Line and are in areas where a lack of fibre infrastructure means their speeds fall below 30Mbps, will be relieved to hear that the new Ultrafast/FTTP technologies being deployed as part of the pilot scheme, will deliver speeds up to 300Mbps – ten times faster than existing speeds.

An average of £30k has been made available for each school that fits the above criteria, to cover the cost of the fibre installation. It is estimated there are upwards of 2000 schools who will benefit.
