round2it Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 we run exchange 2003 and have done for years on windows 7 machines we have an issue where when the user clicks on the icon for owa it asks for credentials i can not figure out why as all our windows xp machines just open upwithout the credentials can anyone throw some light on this
SYNACK Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 What browser, you need to allow it to pass through credentials (IE advanced settings) Firefox (aboout:config > something about credentials) With FF you also need to set it to allow NTLM depending on how your auth is setup for OWA. 1
round2it Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 iwill have a look at that as an administrator it works fine so it must be permissions or something along those lines it is using ie 8
SYNACK Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Same deal, just check it is set to enabled under advanced settings. You can set it with GPO if it is site wide.
mtillbrook Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Have you thought about upgrading to Exchange 2010? I only ask as there is a lot of extra features in OWA 2010 and its faily easy to upgrade from 2003 to 2010 - i did it only the other day!

That's a fairly sweeping statement ;-) Depends entirely on your current setup/requirements for 2010..
mthomas08 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 That's a fairly sweeping statement ;-) Depends entirely on your current setup/requirements for 2010.. I must agree, although the upgrade here went smooth the left overs was something else e.g Address Lists, Outlook 2003 requires RPC Authentication to be enabled (due to default RPC Auth on Exchange 2010). There was a few other niggles which I had to work through but as of now things are working fine. As for the OP it does sound like a IE setting in place, we had zero issues here but our IE Security is probably lower then it should be but our PC protection is quite high and have had zero issues thus far.
round2it Posted November 25, 2011 Author Posted November 25, 2011 our win7 setup is still in the baby stage at the moment ironing out little niggles im sure its something to do with security in ie but getting time to look at these things is difficult
round2it Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Same deal, just check it is set to enabled under advanced settings. You can set it with GPO if it is site wide. could you point in the right direction for this policy
round2it Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 just getting back to this issue group policy checked and windows is passing through authentification (well it is set) results show this. logon as admin i can check mail through owa external link reverse proxy to our box works fine asks for credentials and then pass them through like it should its just when a staff member tries outlook asks for credentials to access the exchange server even if i put the correct details in domain\username it refuses to let anyone access. very fustrating xp is fine
SYNACK Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 could you point in the right direction for this policy Oops, only just found this Computer > User Config > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Control Pannel > Security Page > Trusted Sites Zone : Logon Options and make it part of the trusted list in GPO which I am sure it is. The pass through fail could be because it is detecting it as a not local or trusted site thanks to the proxy. 1
round2it Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 i will give it a go on monday as this is just a little issue that is niggaling my windows 7 deployment now along with the stupid librarys which i think i can fix with the library tool i picked up this weekend. thanks for the reply synack
round2it Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 i have found out what is going on we use mandatory profiles and within the profile that gets loaded is a username stuck in the registry somewhere so when i log onto owa the exchange box thinks the user is the one stuck in the profile thus never letting anyone access owa except an admin level if i put server\exchange\%username% it works but i have an icon that has that command in just sits there doing nothing but if i type it it works anyone know how to clear out this said username or any ideas on where to look.
chazzy2501 Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 hey, are you saying you can have owa log in automatically? I've exchange 2007 can I do that, do I need extra software or somin'. (I inherited my exchange server and have never set one up)

(I inherited my exchange server and have never set one up) If the logon method used is NTLM and passthrough is enabled then you should be able to, yes.
round2it Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 gonna make a new profile to see whats going on
SYNACK Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 how do I turn that on? The Yam: Use both integrated and forms-based authentication in OWA 2007 How to Configure Integrated Windows Authentication: Exchange 2007 Help http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/25916-exchange-2007-owa-authentication-question.html 1
