NikChillin Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Hi All, I have a problem with a router that I purchased a while ago but haven't used until now. My Buffallo router finally packed up so out came the newly flashed Tenda w300d. I connect it up to my ADSL and it is happy, got it's DNS and ip etc, I am getting the internet through a direct ethernet connection too. Here's the problem All the pc's and laptops in the house get an IP address and are using the router for access to the internet, (did ipconfig /all) but all I get is 'page cannot be displayed in IE and the usual similar message in chrome. now, the pc's, XBox, laptops or Tablets are varying OS's and some are hardwired so that narrows it down to the router. The router is dishing out DHCP as the IP range is different from the Buffallo router. WTF is going on? AAAARRRGGH
NikChillin Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 How do I do that on the router? I know on a pc you do it in the command prompt on the pc, or is that what you mean?
NikChillin Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 Orange. I have tried three routers, the Buffallo's ports have all failed, the Livebox works ok but the wifi range isn't brill although these two have no problems connecting or giving access to the internet, then the Wirelesss N tenda, great range all seems fine but no access to the internet from anything.
difinity Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I've not had much success with tenda stuff in the past. Last time i set up a Tenda router it took longer than i'd have liked. Have you checked the router is connecting to your ISP ? there is normally a tab in the menu to check connection uptime etc.
NikChillin Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 I see the status as connected and the IP and DNS are assigned to the router I can ping out too from a laptop connected diredtly to the router but nothing else gets out. The other routers connect fine so it isn't an ISP connection problem. I hate the fact that I may have a duff router that I hadn't checked out earlier! Grrr
NikChillin Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 MAC address? None set for any router and wifi security is set to off............... It has connected in the past but kept dropping connection so I flashed it with the latest firmware. Could it be CHAP?
Guest Guest Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 What about WIFI isolation / guess access blocking all access until explicitly allowed?
jamesreedersmith Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Can you menaully set a client to use google DNS Server 8.8.8.8 and see if that helps Also can you try pinging an external serrver by name and IP. Thakns

Thakns Yes I can ping an exteral server. I will have another look next weekend and go through the things everyone mentioned, It really shouldn't be this much of a problem, it was easy with the other routers.
NikChillin Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 Well, got it sorted. Turns out the Livebox has issues too. I couldn't get the internet, it was complaining of a hardware failure and when I tried to get into it all I could see is could see was the Livebox logo and the two tabs, couldn't see any settings. So after rebooting several times I made a phonecall to Orange and hey presto, internet started working again. As it still wouldn't let me see any settings and it only had two ports, (I need four) I decided to try the Tenda router again and it worked like a dream. Fingers crossed.....
NikChillin Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 Blasted Tenda playing up again! Now it will only dish out IP to some pc's. Hardwired ones get nothing but the 169 range and two wireless laptops the same, one wireless connection complaining of wrong key which has been checked re-set and deleted but no joy. All was well until Saturday. Well I think it is time to et another one. Any reccomendations for a good reliable ADSL 2+ router?
