Hi everyone,

Now I know that the thread title might have people rolling their eyes; as it did me when I found I had 2 domains both called domain.local. Now I've performed a domain rename on one of the domains, that all went really well, hurrah! I've practiced creating domain trusts in some vbox vms so I pretty confident I get the domain trust set up ok.

This is where I get stuck. On the newly renamed domain (now newdomain.local) I go through the New Trust wizard and type in the domain I want to set the trust up with: domain.local. The wizard then tells me that it can't continue as I'm trying to setup a trust with the same domain that I'm currently in (or managing). I'm guessing that this some form of residue from it's old domain name?

DNS replication is setup between the 2 domains, no problems there.

Any bright ideas? Any DNS cleanup tools I can use on the renamed domain?

Thanks as always :)

Found some information on MS Technet. You can't set a trust between 2 domains which at any point have had the same name. Even though the domain has been renamed it still has the same SID prefix as before which will be identical to the un-renamed domain. Looks like I'll have to investigate ADMT :( pants...
