FN-GM Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Hi, I am looking at using ghost to replace Acronis Snap Deploy. currently allot of our clients dont support the F12 boot option so lots are set to boot from LAN by default. When not using Acronis we turn this off so they timeout on the PXE and boot to hard drive. Is there a way in WDS to prevent clients to PXE boot? I dont want to have to change the BIOS settings in lots of machines as i dont have time. Thanks
sted Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 just set wds service to manual start and start/stop as required should do it
plexer Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 That would be the simplest option. What we do is as we the first thing ours boots into is a pxelinux menu the default option which is auto selected after 5 seconds is to boot the local hard disk. pexlinux means we can boot most image formats .iso for example. Ben

Ben can you still use wds boot files as i like the idea of being able to boot an iso as i can think of a few cds that network booted would be useful bartspe/winternals spring to mind as well as seagate /wd diags
plexer Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Yup one of the options is Deployment Services boot we actually boot into the MDT 2010 boot image but the WDS ones would work as well. We use it to boot PC-check iso, dban, memtest86+ etc... Ben
