saintoctopus Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Hi all How do people cope with apps via iTunes for iPods/Pads. I am wondering how we set up an account to be able to download apps, but stop it from being abused. Do I use the same account on each device? Without a credit card, is it best to purchase department Gift Cards? Do I set up a seperate account for each department wishing to use these devices? Any advice greatly appreciated!
peterp Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 As far as I am aware, from our own use of iPods in school. You need to supply your credit card info to create an account now. We use an office machine with a backup image of one of the ipods, we then install that on all the others, with it locked down as much as we can. We've not seen too much messing around with them.

You dont there is a button to press on the sign up section if you dont have a credit card. I set it up for my little brother a few weeks ago.
bossman Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 How much will all this cost in real terms and how much more benefit will the students get on a pound for pound experience or is it just the latest gadget craze which will die along with the schools enthusiasm once the real costs come into play. I have no doubt that these products are good short term but the long term benefits are short lived me thinks especially when it comes down to replacements and the like. Has anyone done a pure cost analysis and if so what are the outcomes.
saintoctopus Posted March 23, 2011 Author Report Posted March 23, 2011 I do agree - but they've bought them now, and expect me to react! I just need to know how people deal with apps...
gpjt Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 We use the itunes cards to buy the apps etc from a main account setup with only certain people knowing the login details. No Need to assign a credit card to the account at all then. 1
bossman Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 @saintoctopus: Apologies for sounding a little harsh, I do really feel for those who have no say in what the school procures for its ICT usage and to be honest just a little jealous as we have no money to purchase these kind of items even if we wanted them. Regards
saintoctopus Posted March 29, 2011 Author Report Posted March 29, 2011 No worries - I understand your frustrations entirely...I'm not utterly convinced this is the best use of the cash, but such is the nature of the beast!
