Michelle Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Hi This is for thos of you who work in boarding schools, or know what I am on about! I am looking to put in each wing of the boarding house a "device" which will contact the boarding parents in an emergency. Also, there needs to be cordless "devices" which a child can have by their bed/a pendant/wrist strap alarm if they are sick and need assistance without getting out of bed. The boarding house staff need to know which wing is making the call (in the case of prank callers"). Does this make sense to anyone? Can anybody recommend a firm that will do a "personal care" alarm style thing? Many thanks Shell
dirtydog Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 IP Phones locked down to only call a couple of numbers or use shortcodes? We use them but only in communal areas not by each bed.
LeMarchand Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Take a look at some geriatric care sites. I know that such a thing exists, as my parents were being encouraged to get one; it would apparently ring a number of choice. They refused so i didn't look any further.
Michelle Posted January 13, 2011 Author Report Posted January 13, 2011 It is mainly for communal areas, and then just by the bed if sick, and cant get out of it. There is currently no cabling in place to support IP phones or a phone system, so would be nice if it could be wireless.
Michelle Posted January 13, 2011 Author Report Posted January 13, 2011 the geriatic sites are the telecare system. This isnt too bad, and has a cost of £2.30 per week approximately. They take your call and pass through. Again, it will need phone lines in each wing. Anyone getting rid of an old analog phone system?

Wireless IP phones are available and if you have existing wireless for student internet you could possibly use that system or implement such a system
subjones Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Give them a call very helpfull will give you a ball park figure. It depends on your needs.
Michelle Posted January 14, 2011 Author Report Posted January 14, 2011 I have given them a call already and that is most definitely more along the lines of what I am looking for. Very friendly bunch. Just waiting for the prices to come back now. Thank you very much!!
superjake Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 This is a great idea. My main concern is that there are some boys who are challenged in different ways, which prevents them from performing well in school. They may be threatened by it.
