pritchardavid Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Hi guys In need for a quick bit of help here I cant seem to be able to get my mantory profiles loading due to the folder security settings What settings do you have on yours? This was working before I upgrading to server 2008 R2, stupid me, didnt write down what the old settings were for it Users groups we have using it is, Staff, and Students Really need help, need to get this working for tomorrow, so students can logon Thanks in advance guys!
glennda Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I don't use mandatory profiles but surely its just read access on both share + ntfs (and list folder contents etc) and they don't need to be able to write anything to the server. Plus for admins full control so they can copy stuff up for shortcuts etc
sted Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 i have mine set to my profiles$ share full for authenticated and ntfs read only for authenticated users full control domain admins
pritchardavid Posted May 16, 2010 Author Posted May 16, 2010 (edited) about about the owner? Any others users like system, creator owner? Edited May 16, 2010 by pritchardavid
glennda Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 about about the owner? Any others users like system, creator owner? i seem to remember at my last place we set the owner as the local administrator account on the server
Arthur Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 To keep things simple, would it be better to set the share to Everyone: Full Control and then change the permissions on just the folder(s)?
pritchardavid Posted May 16, 2010 Author Posted May 16, 2010 (edited) ok to try and sort the problem out, done has above On the main folder that stores the profiles I set the share permssion to everyone full control Then ok the ntfs permissions, i have the following said full control: Everyone, CREATOR OWNER, Authenticated Users, Administrators, and even the actual user name I am testing it with Still no luck, this is really stressing me out, this use to work! This is shared by DFS, the above method is even not using the DFS link, the link with the server name so link is \\server-7\profiles$\student edit: even now tried adding the username Im testing with on the share permissions has well has ntfs one has well Edited May 16, 2010 by pritchardavid
pritchardavid Posted May 16, 2010 Author Posted May 16, 2010 oh well looks likes i'll be having fun fixing this tomorrow (Not), my brain has gone dead at the momment
glennda Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 How did you copy the profile to the server? did you just copy the files from the c: drive or did you go into system properties then move it via the user profile setting and then copy to location?
glennda Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Have the NTFS permissions been pushed down and also did you set the permission to use when copying up to the server? (i know this may sound stupid but it has tripped me up a couple of times)
