sandeep2504 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 i'm a bit baffled, the backup exec job time on our cc3 dc went from 12hours 30mins to 3hours overnight and i'm trying to work out why. we replaced the ait2 tape drive on our cc3 dc about a year ago with an ait4 tape drive. the dc is a windows 2000 server running running Symantec Backup Exec 12. i've compared the slow and fast logs and all i can see is the job rate has increased on all the drives its backing up. we haven't made any system changes, the amount of data is the same, we are still using the same tapes. i cant think of anything else that would have caused it?
danrhodes Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Backup Exec Tape fairies and their magic pixie dust? ;-) No seriously do you do a verify of your tapes after the backup, it might not be working, even though it looks like it is? D
Polski Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 If the data through-put has increased, then the job will end sooner. Have you re-scheduled the anti-virus scan? What have you changed on the server that may allow faster or less restictive access to the data? Just a thought.
sandeep2504 Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 the thing is i haven't changed anything. the antivirus scans are still the same. i had a similar thing happen before where it was Symantec AV scanning things so the AV was the first thing i checked. I've checked the backup exec exceptions and there is nothing noticeable. i had the 12hour backup time due to the old hardware on the server but now i'm lost.
