SimpleSi Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Before Easter - I had a firm ring up and offer to collect and exchange M&S vouchers for old printer toners. I said send me an email but I never got anything and I've a pile of HP2600s to get rid of. Does anyone deal with any firm doing this sort of thing or was it just part of some email address harvesting scam? regards Simon
Tcsltd Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Simon, I can pick up your empties for recycling, sadly we can't give anything back for them...let me know if you want me to arrange a collection!
broc Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Ours are collected by our local Air Ambulance charity, the money they make helps fund its operations.
Hightower Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Simon, I can pick up your empties for recycling, sadly we can't give anything back for them...let me know if you want me to arrange a collection! Free toners to sell back on. 100% profit margins, especially if you make the poor chap pay for the courier too. Now there's a deal not to miss out on Simon. Help the rich get richer!
Tcsltd Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 As I am only round the corner from Simon I would collect them at our cost....and we just send them back to get recycled...we don't sell them on..and we don' make any money..I was just offering a service! 1
enjay Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 We use Recycling printer cartridges & mobile phones for charity (also encouraging staff and students to bring them in from home) and give the money to charity, there are loads of charities to choose from, either by choosing one for all your cartridges to go to, or getting different bags for different charities if you wish. You can also track how much money you've raised. Any cartridges which they don't accept, we send back to the manufacturer for recycling.
elsiegee40 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I fill carrier bags with ours and drop them into the "Help the Aged" Charity Shop in town on a regular basis. I have a Donor Number with them as they claim gift aid on the money they make from anything I donate. I stick my donor number on the bags (I know, I probably shouldn't as most of them aren't ones I paid for personally) and, judging by the statement they send me annually, they clearly make a fair amount from the cartridges and toners.
Hightower Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 How can you all have these spare printer toners to recycle? I'm hoping you all mean empty ones, and not just ones you simply dont need any longer?
enjay Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I have a Donor Number with them as they claim gift aid on the money they make from anything I donate. I stick my donor number on the bags (I know, I probably shouldn't as most of them aren't ones I paid for personally) They almost certainly shouldn't be claiming Gift Aid on them, unfortunately. Gift Aid is about recovering the income tax which was spent on whatever money is donated, and since there were bought by a business, income tax wasn't paid on the money. That said, I think Gift Aid only applies to monetary donations, so it could be they're not actually actually able to get anything back anyway...
MYK-IT Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 You could try Recycool. You can either donate the funds to one of the listed charities or the school could cash the money (via BACS Transfer).
SimpleSi Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 How can you all have these spare printer toners to recycle? I used to use cartridge world and just used to give them to them but I don't anymore at this school and the old ones have been piling up and the school want them cleared out. Thanks for all the suggestions - it was more about the firm offering the vouchers (and is it a scam) than how to get rid of them I'm going to drop these with Vicki as I pass within 100yds of their office on my way to my next school today regards Simon 1
enjay Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 @myk-it - thanks, I've just registered with them as they take loads more models than the company I suggested. @SimpleSi - would it not be better to give a charity a bit of money for them rather than have Vicki do it for no gain?
SimpleSi Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 ssh - there might be children reading this
enjay Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 @myk-it - thanks, I've just registered with them as they take loads more models than the company I suggested. Ha, that said, even though they take more, they hardly take any of the ones which I have! No harm in being signed up with multiple companies though, since the ranges which they can and can't take do seem to vary a lot.
Tcsltd Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 The company we recycle with, will take back all toners...so if there are ones that you can't give to charity let me know and I can arrange a collection...and as long as you have 15 toners or more they will collect free of charge.
john Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Will you take my empty Office Basics etc back as well Vicki? People like Recycool etc don't seem to like Office Basics etc and thus either charge or don't collect etc. If you can, could you drop me an email as we have a small mountain of them building up...
